Is a photo ID required to vote?

Currently, North Carolina voters are not required to show photo identification in elections.

What do I need to register?

Birth Certificate, Social Security Number, NC Drivers License or State ID Number; Utility Bill or Bank Statement proving residency

How old do I have to be to vote?

You must be 18 years or older to vote; however, 16 and 17 year-olds are eligible to pre-register.

Do I need to disclose my gender identity when registering to vote?

The disclosure of gender identity is not required to vote anywhere in North Carolina. If one does decide to update their gender information, that can be done by submitting a voter registration form to the Lenoir County Board of Elections.

How do I request an absentee ballot?

No special circumstance is needed to request a mail-in absentee ballot in most elections in North Carolina. You may request an absentee ballot in person or by written request to the Lenoir County Board of Elections beginning 50 days prior to Election Day. The Tuesday prior to Election Day is the last day ballots can be mailed. The ballot must be received by the Lenoir County Board of Elections office by 5pm on Election Day in order to be counted.

Can I register and vote if I have a felony conviction?

Yes! Previously convicted felons ARE eligible to vote in NC, if they have completed their sentence including probation and parole. Once you have completed your sentence you MUST re-register to vote.

How long do I have to be a NC resident before I can vote in NC?

You must be a resident of a North Carolina county for at least 30 days to be eligible to vote in that county.

Can I vote once by mail and once in person to make sure my vote is counted?

NO! Voting more than once is a felony.
